Carl Hiaasen, NATIVE TONGUE

This story has the usual mix of most Hiaasen books: small time crooks, scatological humor, environmental consciousness, and a Robin Hood plot. All set in a rapidly being ruined Florida. Here a rather motley assemblage of forces for the good are up against a decidedly third-rate version of Disney World, which is threatening to expand its destruction of the environment by building an exclusive golf course.

I like Hiaasen’s books although they may not be to everyone’s taste. But if you haven’t had the experience and want to give it a try, this is as good a place to start as any.
